i only had straight talk for a month and have not used my phone for any excessive internet usage. i was curious about whether i could use my phone to allow my tablet or laptop to get wifi and called customer service only to be put on hold for a long time and never told exactly why. the guy didn't speak English very well so it was hard to understand him but I think that he suspected me of trying to abuse my data usage even though I haven't even gone over 3gb. all i know is he asked if i downloaded a lot on my phone and then said to call if i have any issues with not having data connection. ok, well i use facebook messenger and i constantly have it saying that my messages werent sent after five minutes or it acting like i don't have any internet when i clearly have 4 or 5 bars of service. does that have anything to do with this? it's upsetting because the guy actually tried to encourage me to buy a Straight Talk phone (mine was AT&T) and acted like that would fix all my problems. i don't believe that is right considering they are the ones advertising you can use your old phone. also they advertise you get first 5gb at high speed - AGAIN, I haven't even went over 3gb in one month!! UGH i hate customer service with these people...

What you are attempting to do by connecting your tablet to the internet via your Straight Talk phone is called tethering. Tethering is against the Terms of Service even if you don't exceed the 5GB of data.

I've heard stories of them terminating people's service for tethering and then people losing their phone number because you can only transfer an active number to another service. I suggest that you not attempt to tether.

I have used straight talk for 2 years now. I initially purchased an iPhone 5s through their program and had little complaints... mainly bc I set up autopay and did not interact with customer service. However, I recently decided to try the bring your own program by using a friends iphone 5 after breaking my own. Not the best decision. If you are currently considering doing the bring your own program, reconsider and read some reviews. I wish I had. I received the wrong SIM card (late) and when I finally received the correct SIM card the connection did not occur until almost 3 days later. That is being generous, because as I type my service is still not completely active. My internet is nonexistent and when I called for the 4th or 5th time since attempting this I received little help other than "wait" and an attitude. I am a woman who commutes alone. I have had no way of contacting contacts through imessage or email. In addition I am unable to monitor the bus schedule that connects my lot to the hospital. If you are considering Straight talk, know that the service rivals its rivals. However, the customer service and technology DOES NOT. It is worth it if you can actually get your phone to work.

You do not purchase Straight Talk service one month at a time. You purchase it 30 days at a time.

Because every month does not have exactly 30 days your service end date will move from month to month. So, for instance, if your service end date were December 31, then a 30 day service card would cover the first 30 days of January from January 1 to January 30 and you service end date would be January 30 (not January 31). Your next service end date would be February 29, but after that the next and the next would be March 30.

Notice that from February to March the service end date actually moves ahead a day because February only has 29 days.

It's really difficult for someone to explain it to you on the phone. You really have to take out a calendar and count off 30 days at a time and see how your service end date moves around and that they are not ripping you off.

Just got off phone with straight talk., i downloaded there app to keep up with data. The past 2 months they cut me back to 2g before my 5gb was up.., this month they sent me a text saying i reached my limit.... That was 2 weeks ago..my service is out tomorrow and i have used 4970.09mb and there is 5120mb in 5gb .. Wtf..... I would strongly advise. More than likely you have run into the fuzzy definition of GB and MB. Sometimes MB=1,000,000 bytes and sometimes MB=1024*1024=1,048,576.

Sometimes GB=1,000,000,000 and sometimes it's 1024*1024*1024=1,073,741,824.

When they set the 5GB limit they probably meant 5,000,000,000 bytes; however, when they said you used 4970.09MB they meant 4970.09*1,048,576=5,211,517,092 which is over the 5,000,000,000 limit. Probably the Customer Service agents you talk to won't tell you this because they don't really understand it themselves, but I'd bet that's what is happening.
